The first resident Ambassador of the United States of America Hugo Yue-Ho Yon paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid today.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Shahid congratulated Ambassador Yon on his appointment and welcomed him to the Maldives. Reviewing the extensive bilateral portfolio and development partnership between the two countries, Minister Shahid reflected on the significance of the Ambassador’s arrival and the opening of a resident US Embassy in the Maldives.
Minister Shahid and Ambassador Yon also discussed increasing the current engagements further, including enhancing cooperation in fields such as defense and security, education, democracy and good governance, and people-to-people ties.
Ambassador Yon further emphasized the strength of the bilateral relationship between the two countries and expressed his commitment to continue to elevate the partnership during his tenure.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Secretary, Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed, Director Adam Hamid and Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed.
