Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of sympathy and condolence to the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, following the loss of lives and livelihoods caused by the widespread floods and devastating landslides in the northern States of India. Minister’s message reads as follows:
“I am greatly saddened to hear the news of the widespread floods and devastating landslides caused by torrential rains in the northern States of India, leading to loss of lives, destroying livelihoods and infrastructure, and displacement of people.
At this time of distress, on behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives, I extend deepest sympathies and condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of India. I extend our heartfelt prayers to alleviate the sufferings to those effected, especially to the bereaved families.
I hope that the rescue and recovery efforts proceed swiftly with ease. I praise and pray for the perseverance of the people of India during this difficult time.”
