03 December 2013, Male;The Peoples Majlis (Parliament) has today passed the bill on Anti Human Trafficking. The new legislation clearly makes trafficking in persons a criminal offence in the Maldives. The enactment of measures under the bill also ensures added protection to trafficked victims. Once the bill is enacted penalties for perpetrators of trafficking offence include from 10 to 15 years jail imprisonment.

17th November 2013, Male'; Mr Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has been sworn in as the 6th President of the Republic of Maldives. The President took his oath of office at the Special Assembly held at Dharubaaruge at 1.00 this afternoon. The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice, Uz Ahmed Faiz Hussain.

16 November 2013, Male'; The Presidential election run-off in the Maldives has begun this morning at 0730hrs and would close at 1600hrs. The Elections Commission of the Maldives has announced that there are 239,165 eligible voters for this election.
16 November 2013, Male'; Polling has ended in the Presidential election run-off held in the Maldives today. However, all eligible voters who lined up to vote before 1600 hrs will be able to cast their votes. Polling had proceeded smoothly and peacefully with no major incidents being reported.
15 November 2013, Male'; The Elections Commission (EC) has confirmed that all logistical arrangements are in place to conduct the Presidential election run-off tomorrow. Representatives of the two candidates contesting in the election have completed signing the eligible voters lists to be placed at all polling stations.
