The Maldives has strongly condemned the attacks on the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and its Consulate in Mashhad. In a statement delivered by Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, at the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on Cause of Aggressions on Saudi Diplomatic Missions in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Maldives echoed its support to the Government of Saudi Arabia.

On 20 January 2016, the President of the United Nations General Assembly has appointed H.E. Mr. Ahmed Sareer, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives as Co-Chair for the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States through a letter dated 20 January 2016. H.E. Mr. Sebastiano Cardi, the Permanent Representative of Italy was appointed as the other Co-Chair of the Committee.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon has sent a message of sympathy to His Excellency Sartaj Aziz, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, condemning the attack at Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, causing loss of several lives and injury to many.

Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon has departed to Saudi Arabia today to attend the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on Cause of Aggressions on Saudi Diplomatic Missions in the Islamic Republic of Iran which is scheduled to take place  in Jeddah on 21st January 2016.

While illustrating the Maldives progress in promotion and protection of children at the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Attorney General HE. Mohamed Anil has underscored that the Maldives has demonstrated its full commitment to perform in line with the provisions and principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We have ensured a robust and a progressive system of child development.

Speaking to the Committee on Convention on the Rights of the Child, Attorney General H.E. Mohamed Anil highlighted the extraordinary progress that the Maldives has made on promoting and protecting the rights of the child. The Maldives was reviewed today at the 71st Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

  • Former President, currently serving a jail sentence, has left the Maldives to the UK for medical treatment.
    • Before leaving the Maldives, Mr Nasheed signed an undertaking to return to the Maldives after completing his medical treatment.
    • Mr Nasheed’s brother signed a document as a guarantor.
  • Government of the Maldives notes President Nasheed himself requested travel to UK, government agreed to accommodate request.

Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom, The Rt. Hon. Hugo Swire, departed Maldives this morning after concluding his official visit to the Maldives. Minister Swire was visiting the Maldives upon invitation of the Government of Maldives.

The new Ambassador of Japan designated to the Maldives, H.E. Mr Kenichi Suganuma has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Wednesday morning.

Japanese Ambassador designated to the Maldives, H.E. Kenichi Sunganuma, has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

Foreign Minister, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon  signed the book of condolence placed at the High Commission of India in Male’, in memory of the Former President of India, His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who passed away on 27 July 2015.

President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka H.E. Mr Maithripala Sirisena, concluded his State Visit to the Maldives this morning. The ‎Sri Lankan President was seen off at Ibrahim Nasir ‎International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs H. E. Ms Dunya Maumoon  and H. E. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, the Minister-in-attendance for the President.

His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Mansour bin Moteb bin Abdulaziz, State Minister, Member of the Cabinet and Counselor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has departed Maldives this morning after participating in the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The Government of Maldives and the State of Palestine, with a view to further strengthening and diversifying bilateral relations between the two countries, signed an Agreement today at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine HE Dr. Riad Malki, and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Ms. Dunya Maumoon signed the Agreement.
