Maldives and Palestine Sign Agreement to Advance Ties

27 July 2015, Male’: 

The Government of Maldives and the State of Palestine, with a view to further strengthening and diversifying bilateral relations between the two countries, signed an Agreement today at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine HE Dr. Riad Malki, and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Ms. Dunya Maumoon signed the Agreement. 

In her remarks following the signing, Minister Dunya reiterated the Maldives’ continued support to Palestine. The Minister also expressed confidence that the Intergovernmental Joint Committee will provide an excellent platform for both countries to discuss ways to further strengthen and diversify bilateral cooperation, as well as collaboration in regional and international affairs.

Also speaking after the ceremony Palestinian Minister Malki also conveyed the strong support of the people and Government of Palestine and and expressed his strong commitment to advance bilateral ties between the two countries. 

The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ambassador of Palestine to the Maldives.

HE Dr. Riad Malki also paid a courtesy call on Minister Dunya, after the signing ceremony. Discussions during the meeting focused on the operational aspects of the Joint Committee that would be established under the Agreememt.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador-at-Large Mr. Abdullah Hameed, Additional Secretary Ms. Liusha Zahir and Assistant Director Ms. Maryam Bassama Farooq.
