Maldives appointed as Co-Chair of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States

On 20 January 2016, the President of the United Nations General Assembly has appointed H.E. Mr. Ahmed Sareer, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives as Co-Chair for the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States through a letter dated 20 January 2016. H.E. Mr. Sebastiano Cardi, the Permanent Representative of Italy was appointed as the other Co-Chair of the Committee. 

The mandate of the Co-Chairs is to follow up on the implementation of the (SIDS) Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway and the Mauritius Strategy for the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.

The Maldives is continuing to play a prominent role in its second year as the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) in leading the voice of SIDS through intergovernmental negotiations in Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
