Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has on Wednesday met with the Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, His Highness Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, and presented a letter on behalf of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Former President Maumoon is currently on a visit to Oman as a special envoy of President Yameen.

The Chief of Rule of Law Division of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Mona Rishwami has called on the Foreign Secretary His Excellency Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed this morning. During the meeting held at the Ministry, the Foreign Secretary briefed the OHCHR team on the current political situation in the Maldives and assured Government’s commitment in upholding the constitution , the rule of law and separation of powers.

Foreign Minister has today hosted an Iftar to the Ambassadors and High Commissioners and Members of the Diplomatic Community resident in Male’. Speaking at the event held in Bandos this evening, Minister stated that ‘as we approach the end of Ramadan, we are getting ready to welcome two important festivals, the first is the Eid al Fitri and the other is the Golden Jubilee of Independence that is on the 26 of this month”.

The Maldives is not on the agenda of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), despite efforts made by some of the most powerful countries in the Commonwealth to place the Maldives on the Group’s agenda and harm the nation.

The 29^th session of the UN Human Rights Council concluded in Geneva yesterday. As a small but an active member of the Council, the Maldives participated in the debates and the negotiations on a number of key human rights issues during the session. This council session adopted 26 resolutions on substantive human rights issues.

The Maldives has voted in favour of the resolution on ‘ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem which was adopted by the Human Rights Council yesterday.
