The 29th session of the UN Human Rights Council concluded in Geneva yesterday. As a small but an active member of the Council, the Maldives participated in the debates and the negotiations on a number of key human rights issues during the session. This council session adopted 26 resolutions on substantive human rights issues.
In line with its key priorities at the UN Human Rights Council, the Maldives co-sponsored resolutions including those on human rights situation in Syria, Commission of Inquiry on Gaza, Palestine and technical assistance to Cote D’Ivoire. The Maldives also worked closely and co-sponsored resolutions including those on human rights and climate change, negative impact of corruption on enjoyment of human rights, and the protection of the family.
During the past three weeks of the Session, Maldives made statements in response to the Oral Update by the High Commissioner, Annual Day Discussion on Women, Commission of Inquiry on Syrian Arab Republic, Commission of Inquiry on Gaza, situation in Palestinian Occupied Territories, and Panel on the Effects of Terrorism.
The Maldives was represented at the session by the staff at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva.
