The Chief of Rule of Law Division of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Mona Rishwami has called on the Foreign Secretary His Excellency Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed this morning. During the meeting held at the Ministry, the Foreign Secretary briefed the OHCHR team on the current political situation in the Maldives and assured Government’s commitment in upholding the constitution , the rule of law and separation of powers.
Discussion also ensued on the recent positive developments in the Maldives and the Foreign Secretary updated the OHCHR team on the on-going political dialogue between the Government and the opposition political parties to diffuse the political tension. During the meeting Foreign Secretary also stressed OHCHR team on the importance of cooperation and engagement for a constructive relationship with the High Commissioner’s office and reiterated the Government’s commitment to work with its international partners towards democracy consolidation in the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Ms. Aishath Liusha, Director for Legal Affairs Mr. Zaaid Ahmed and Assistant Director, Ms. Moomina Ibrahim.
