Maldives National University together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts model Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

Ref: 2025/PR/58

The Maldives National University (MNU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a model Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) today.

In the lead up to Commonwealth Day on 10 March 2025, the model CHOGM was held under this year’s theme for the Commonwealth Day “Together we thrive”. The event simulated the Executive Sessions of CHOGM, bringing together students from various batches of the Faculty of Arts of MNU. It provided them with the platform to engage in a productive discussion, raising critical issues and challenges vital to the Commonwealth, including climate change, sustainable development, and economic resilience.

During the session, the students reflected on the shared values of the Commonwealth, emphasising the importance of fostering cooperation and youth involvement across the Commonwealth in addressing global challenges. The model CHOGM session served as part of the broader Commonwealth Day commemorations, reinforcing the Maldives’ commitment to empowering young people in shaping the future of the Commonwealth.

The event was attended by the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior officials of the Maldives National University, representatives from the diplomatic community, as well as university and high school students.
