13 February 2012, Male';President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has moved over recent days to finalise the composition of his Cabinet, as part of his drive to create a government of national unity. As publicly promised following his succession to the Presidency, Dr. Waheed is working to ensure that all responsible political parties are represented in the Cabinet.
13 February 2012, Male'; The Government of Maldives today welcomed the decision of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) to constitute a ministerial mission to visit the Maldives to ascertain the facts surrounding the transfer of power, following the resignation of President Nasheed on 7th February.
12th February 2012, Male'; A briefing on the human rights situation, chaired by the President of the UN Human Rights Council and addressed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has been held at the UN in Geneva. During the briefing, H.E. Ambassador Adam, the Maldives Permanent Representative, briefed members and observer States of the Human Rights Council as well as international NGOs on the situation in the Maldives.
11 February 2012, Male';President Waheed today announced that an independent and impartial investigation will be conducted into developments in the Maldives from 14th January to 8th February, which culminated in the resignation of former President Nasheed and widespread disturbances across the country.

7 February 2012, Male'; Vice President of the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Waheed has taken the oath of office as the President of the country today. President Waheed was sworn in following the resignation of Mr. Mohamed Nasheed this afternoon. The transition was smooth and peaceful.

5 February 2012, Male':The Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka, H. E. Professor G. L. Peiris has arrived in the Maldives today on an official visit. The Minister was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah and senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.

26th January 2011, Male'; The Deputy Regional Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Mr. Jaap Van Hierden paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Naseem yesterday. Discussions at the call focused on issues of mutual cooperation and on strengthening the relationship between UNOPS and Maldives. Mr. Hierden noted the leadership role taken by the Maldives in climate change negotiations and achieving carbon neutrality and also assured of their full cooperation in the development activities of the Maldives, especially those relating to renewable energy.
26th January 2011, Male';In her official statement the Deputy Permanent Representative, Ms. Thilmeeza Hussain, expressed that Maldives considers Rio+20 to be a "once in a decade opportunity to change our trajectory to one that is sustainable for generations to come." She added that the outcome from Rio+20 must be "galvanize a change in how we think approach and chart our path forward on sustainable development."
24 January, Male'; The Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Mr. Ahmed Naseem today welcomed the submission, by a group of local lawyers, of a case alleging human rights violations to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
23 January 2012, Male'; The Minister for Foreign Affairs today held a briefing for the Diplomatic Missions based in Maldives regarding the public unrest following the detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed. The Minister outlined the Government's position on the matter, and took questions from the High Commissioners.

22 January 2012, Male';The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Maldives, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Naseem, today wrote to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) requesting that it urgently dispatch a team of senior international jurists to the Maldives to help facilitate a resolution to the ongoing judicial crisis facing the country. The letter is a follow-up to suggestions made late last week during phone calls between the President and senior UN and Commonwealth officials. The Minister made clear in his letter that the team of eminent jurists would be asked to help resolve the immediate issues surrounding the detention of Justice Abdulla Mohamed, the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, and also the longer-term problems facing the Maldives' judiciary and the failure of judicial accountability mechanisms under the Constitution.
