23 January 2012, Male'; The Minister for Foreign Affairs today held a briefing for the Diplomatic Missions based in Maldives regarding the public unrest following the detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed. The Minister outlined the Government's position on the matter, and took questions from the High Commissioners.
He reiterated the Government's commitment to uphold peace and security and stressed that Government's intention to work towards establishing a functioning democratic state in the Maldives.
Earlier today the Minister also held a press conference to brief the media about his recent official visit to Japan, which took place from 16th-19th January.
