26th January 2011, Male'; The Deputy Regional Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Mr. Jaap Van Hierden paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Naseem yesterday. Discussions at the call focused on issues of mutual cooperation and on strengthening the relationship between UNOPS and Maldives. Mr. Hierden noted the leadership role taken by the Maldives in climate change negotiations and achieving carbon neutrality and also assured of their full cooperation in the development activities of the Maldives, especially those relating to renewable energy.
UNOPS specializes in implementing projects for the United Nations (UN) organizations, international financial institutions, governments and non-government organizations. Almost 6000 employees work for UNOPS annually and create thousands of employment opportunities in local communities, on behalf of the partners of UNOPS. UNOPS Office in the Maldives was established on 30 December 2010.
