09 May 2012, Male'; The Government of Maldives condemns in strongest words the unsubstantiated allegations made by some Senior MDP members in the article published in Open Magazine on 5th May 2012 under the heading "A Coup Made in India?". The allegations made in the article, against the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, H. E. Mr. D.M. Mulay is totally baseless and unfounded.

26th April 2012, Male; The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, today called the enactment of the Domestic Violence Bill as an important step forward for gender equality and non-discrimination in the Maldives, and as an early indication of the current Government's commitment to human rights. The Bill is the first to be enacted by H.E. President Mohamed Waheed when he signed it into law on April 23rd as the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, following parliamentary approval on April 9th.
26 April 2012, New York;The Republic of Maldives today was elected by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations to serve a three-year term on the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). At the election that was held during the resumed session of the Economic and Social Council, Maldives as a member of the Executive Board will aim to strengthen the work of the organization in meeting the needs of women all around the world. This is the first time that the Maldives has been elected to a functional body of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
