11th May 2012, Male'; The President Dr Mohamed Waheed has met with Mr Ranjan Mathai, Foreign Secretary of India this evening.

While appreciating India's role in establishing peace and stability in the Maldives, President Waheed briefed the Foreign Secretary on the political developments in the Maldives.

11th May 2012, Male'; The President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have this evening arrived in New Delhi, India. The President is making a visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

09 May 2012, Male'; The Government of Maldives condemns in strongest words the unsubstantiated allegations made by some Senior MDP members in the article published in Open Magazine on 5th May 2012 under the heading "A Coup Made in India?". The allegations made in the article, against the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, H. E. Mr. D.M. Mulay is totally baseless and unfounded.

8th May 2012, Male'; Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla had a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Maldives,H.E Ms. Patricia Butenis at the Ministry today.

26th April 2012, Male; The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, today called the enactment of the Domestic Violence Bill as an important step forward for gender equality and non-discrimination in the Maldives, and as an early indication of the current Government's commitment to human rights. The Bill is the first to be enacted by H.E. President Mohamed Waheed when he signed it into law on April 23rd as the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, following parliamentary approval on April 9th.

26 April 2012, New York;The Republic of Maldives today was elected by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations to serve a three-year term on the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). At the election that was held during the resumed session of the Economic and Social Council, Maldives as a member of the Executive Board will aim to strengthen the work of the organization in meeting the needs of women all around the world. This is the first time that the Maldives has been elected to a functional body of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

25 April 2012, Male';The Majlis yesterday approved the Vice President Mr Waheed Deen and Cabinet Ministers proposed by President Dr Mohamed Waheed.The vote was unanimous of those present and voting which included 46 members representing all the parties in Majlis.Whilst, MDP walked out of the session, 1 MDP Mp remained in the chamber.

18 April 2012, Male';President Dr Mohamed Waheed has reassured that the Maldives would continue to use its presence in all international organisations, including the UN Human Rights Council, to advocate the cause of Palestine. He made the statement in his speech at the state luncheon held at Kurumba Maldives in honour of the visiting President of Palestine, Dr Mahmoud Abbas.
