16 April 2012, Male';The President of the State of Palestine, H. E. Dr. Mahmoud Abbas will arrive in the Maldives on a state visit tomorrow.
During the two day visit the Palestinian President will meet the President of the Maldives H. E. Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Speaker of the People's Majlis, H. E. Mr. Abdullah Shahid and former President of the Maldives, H. E. Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. In addition to that, official talks will be held between both the countries tomorrow afternoon. This is the first time since 1984 that a Palestinian President is visiting the Maldives. In July 1984 the Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, H. E. Mr. Yasser Arafat made a visit to the Maldives.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with the State of Palestine on 4th April 1982. The Government of the Maldives believed that this visit will further strengthen the close bilateral relations between the two countries.
