Statement by the Government of Maldives on the terrorist attack in Somalia

The Government of Maldives condemns the terrorist attack targeted at a military base in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, that caused the deaths of a number of military personnel from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Somalia and injuries to several more.

Such acts of terrorism that are in blatant violation of international law negatively impact upon peace and stability in the region and carry the risk of grave implications on an international scale. The Maldives stands against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and is strongly committed to work together with bilateral and multilateral partners in the fight against global terrorism.

The Government of Maldives expresses sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families and to all those affected by this horrific incident and expresses solidarity with the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
