Minister Dr. Khaleel calls on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan today.

Minister Dr. Khaleel conveyed greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and expressed profound gratitude for the UAE’s unwavering support for the Maldives’ development and progress over the decades. The discussions focused on a wide range of issues covering key aspects of the Maldives-UAE bilateral relationship

During the call, Minister briefed His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the Maldives’ fiscal reform agenda and key development initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing shared priorities, including cooperation in the areas of renewable energy, fisheries, trade, tourism and connectivity, with the prospect of exploring new avenues for collaboration.

Minister Dr. Khaleel expressed appreciation for the UAE’s significant contributions to the Maldives through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), particularly in supporting mega projects such as the Velana International Airport expansion project. 

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE expressed commitment to deepening the historic partnership with the Maldives and advancing the shared aspirations of both countries.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Ambassador of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah Hameed, Ambassador-at-Large, Hassaan Waheed, Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of Maldives to the UAE, Mariyam Reesha, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Moomina Ibrahim, Counsellor at the Embassy of Maldives to the UAE.
