Statement by the Government of Maldives strongly Condemning the Israeli Cabinet’s decision for the approval of the establishment of 34 new Settlements in the Occupied West Bank

The Republic of Maldives strongly condemns the Israeli Cabinet’s decision to approve the establishment of 34 new settlements in the Occupied West Bank. Such repeated actions to systematically seize land and displace Palestinians are part of a broader effort by Israel to alter the status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory,  and constitute a grave violation  of the international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular Security Council Resolution 2334.

The Maldives calls upon the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities, to ensure accountability, and to take effective measures to compel Israel to cease all settlement activities and other illegal practices against the Palestinian people.

The Republic of Maldives reaffirms its unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, and its firm commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.
