The Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium, Geela Ali, today delivered a statement on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, at the 118th session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). The meeting is taking place from 4-6 December 2024 in hybrid format in Brussels, Belgium.
In her statement, Ambassador Geela expressed appreciation to the Member States and the Secretariat of the OACPS for the continued support afforded to the Maldives since becoming a full Member State of the organisation. Ambassador Geela also emphasized the crucial role of the OACPS in bringing countries together in their efforts to address, sustainable development, climate crisis, and maintaining global peace and security. She also highlighted the OACPS-EU partnership and expressed confidence that this would result in economic benefits for the Maldives.
The OACPS, comprising of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, was established in 1975 under the “Georgetown Agreement”. The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022 and has been working together with members of the OACPS and the European Union to address global challenges.
