9 Oct 2012, New York:The Maldives has today appealed to the larger states with more resources to commit themselves towards more programmes for utilising clean and renewable energy in order to reduce the world's carbon footprint. This appeal was made by the Maldives delegate to the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Hassan Hussain Shihab.
09th October 2012, Male'; The Republic of the Maldives reiterated its call for a single comprehensive convention to eliminate the scourge of global terrorism. Speaking in the legal committee of the United Nations' General Assembly, First Secretary Salim Waheed elaborated on the Maldives' commitment to existing conventions, but espoused the need for greater global action.
2ndOctober 2012, Male'; The UN Human Rights Council has concluded its 21st session in Geneva, with the adoption of new resolutions: Safety of Journalists, Right to Truth, High Level Panel to Commemorate the Twentieth Anniversary of the adoption of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, and Elaboration of International Complementary Standards on Racial Discrimination.
2 October 2012, Male'; An informal meeting of the SAARC Council of Ministers was held on the sidelines of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, today. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr Abdul Samad Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, and attended by all SAARC member countries. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mr Ahmed Saleem, Secretary General of SAARC.
2nd October 2012, Geneva; The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has condemned the killing of MP Afrasheem Ali in the Maldives earlier on Tuesday.The death is the latest and most tragic act of violence in a country that has been in a political crisis since the start of the year.
29th September 2012 / Male'; The Government of Maldives is disappointed with the statement by the Canadian Foreign Minister taking political sides with the opposition in the Maldives, and further fuelling misinformation about the CMAG and its decision on the Maldives.The statement released by CMAG very clearly notes that Maldives has been taken off the formal agenda and will be resuming its seat as a full member of the CMAG at its next meeting.
28th September 2012, Male'; President Dr Mohamed Waheed said that the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG)'s decision to withdraw Maldives from its agenda was encouragement to continue to resolve our domestic issues on our own, and to uphold the sovereignty of the country.
27th September 2012, Male'; The President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Waheed today delivered his address to the Sixty-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly.
27 September 2012:President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has noted that "if there is a ground zero for observing and monitoring the impacts of global climate, that would be Maldives".The President made his remarks today at a function hosted by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to launch the 2nd Climate Vulnerability Monitor.Bangladesh hosted this event as the current Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum.The first Climate Vulnerability Monitor was launched under the Maldives chairmanship of the Forum in 2010.
25th September 2012, Male'; The Embassy of the Maldives in Japan held a Maldives Canned Tuna Promotion Night on 24th September 2012 in Tokyo. This event held at Tokyo's famous restaurant "Tokyo Culture Culture" in Odaiba was organized by the Embassy in collaboration with a well known Japanese freelance writer known as "Can Doctor," Mr. Hayato Kurokawa and was produced by the Nifty Company Ltd.

23 September 2012.The UN Secretary General, H.E Ban Ki Moon has noted that now that the transfer of power has been accepted nationally and internationally as constitutional through the very credible process of the CONI, the country should now move ahead to meet the challenges.The UNSG made his remarks in his meeting today with the President of the Republic of Maldives, H.E Mohamed Waheed Hassan.The UNSG assured Maldives of the continued support of the UN in consolidating democracy. In particular he noted support of the UN in preparing for the 2013 elections and as election observers.

At the meeting held today at Kurumba Maldives Resort and Spa, State Minister Dunya highlighted the close historical relations between the Maldives and India, and expressed her gratitude to the Indian Government for standing by the Maldives through the difficult times. The State Minister also expressed her appreciation for India's continued assistance and support to the socio-economic development of the Maldives and in international forums such as the Commonwealth.
