13 November 2013, Male'; The Maldives is re-elected to the United Nations Human Right Council with 164 votes. The election was held last night at the United Nations General Assembly. The Maldives will commence serving its second consecutive term at the Council, from 2014.

10 November 2013, Male'; The Election Commissioner has announced today that the run-off of the presidential election will take place on Saturday, 16 November 2013 in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling today about holding of the election run-off.

9 November 2013, Male'; Polling has ended in the Presidential Election held in the Maldives today. However, all eligible voters who lined up to vote before 1530 hrs will be able to cast their votes. Polling had proceeded smoothly and peacefully across the country and abroad.

9 November 2013, Male'; The Presidential election in the Maldives has begun this morning at 0700hrs and would close at 1530hrs. The Elections Commission of the Maldives has announced that there are 239,105 eligible voters for this election.

8 November 2013, Male'; Campaigning for the Maldivian Presidential Election scheduled to be held tomorrow has ended at 1800 hrs this evening.

31 October 2013, Male';In a statement issued today, President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has denied the UNHCR's allegations that the Maldives' Supreme Court and Government were subverting the democratic process.

29 October 2013, Male', The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the attack on the Indian High Commissioner's car last night. The Ministry is deeply concerned that a diplomatic vehicle was subjected to vandalism. The Maldives Police Service is currently investigating the case and the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

29 October 2013, Male'; In a statement issued on Tuesday by the President's Office, the government of Maldives has strongly condemned the damage done to the car of Indian High Commissioner to Maldives His Excellency Mr. Rajeev Shahare, which was parked outside the High Commission in Male.

21 October 2013, Male';President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said it was in the best interest of the Maldivian people and the nation as a whole, to have a new president elected when the current term ends. He made the statement while speaking at a press conference held this afternoon at the President's Office, regarding the issues surrounding the Maldives' presidential election.

Speaking at a Press conference on 21st October 2013, the President Dr Waheed has noted that not having an elected President by the end of the current term is not in the interests of the Maldivian State and the Maldivian people.

20 October 2013, Male';President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has expressed concern that the presidential election could not be held as scheduled. The President reiterated full assurance to extend all his support and whatever assistance to the Election Commission to hold a free, fair and inclusive election, where none of the candidates boycott it. The President also urged all three candidates and political parties to find a solution to the current disagreements with regard to electoral register.

18 October 2013, Male';President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Waheed has requested the President of the Elections Commission Mr. Fuwad Thaufeeq to hold dialogue with the candidates or their representatives in order to overcome the differences over holding of the presidential election, scheduled for tomorrow, 19 October 2013. The President made this request in a telephone conversation he had with Mr. Thaufeeq early this evening.

12 October 2013, Male'; President Waheed has decided to withdraw his candidacy from the Presidential Election scheduled to be held on 19 October 2013, following the decision of the Supreme Court to nullify the first round of the election, which was held on 7 September. A statement released by President Waheed's election office said that he took this decision in the greater interests of the country at a time when the integrity and the independence of Elections Commission and the election process are being challenged. The Supreme Court found serious flaws with the election register and considered other allegations of irregularities.
