10 November 2013, Male'; The Election Commissioner has announced today that the run-off of the presidential election will take place on Saturday, 16 November 2013 in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling today about holding of the election run-off.
In a separate verdict last night, the Supreme Court ruled that the incumbent president and his government will remain in office if a president is not elected by the constitutional deadline of November 11. The same ruling also nullified the resolution passed by the People's Majlis earlier to hand over presidential powers to the Speaker of the People's Majlis if a new president is not elected before November 11.
