29 April 2015; Following the earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been closely monitoring the status of Maldivians and made arrangements to evacuate those who wished to leave Nepal at the earliest opportunity.

In this regard, 14 Maldivians who were residing in Biratnagar and evacuated to New Delhi, arrived in Maldives at 01.25 am tonight via UL 105. Furthermore, 77 Maldivians in other parts of Nepal who were evacuated from Kathmandu to Dhaka through a Biman Bangladesh Airlines chartered flight, arrived in Maldives at 03.10 am tonight, via a special flight of the national carrier Maldivian Q2 551.

The evacuation efforts of Maldivians in Nepal were carried under the guidance and instructions of H.E. President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and with the assistance and support of many collaborators. The Ministry wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Honorary Consul of Maldives in Nepal
