Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid has concluded his official visit to Sri Lanka. During the visit Minister Shahid paid courtesy calls on Hon. Ranil Wikremesinghe, Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Former President and Opposition Leader and Hon. Vajira Abeywardhane, Minister of Internal & Home Affairs, Provincial Council and Local Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

During the meetings, Foreign Minister Shahid conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government and People of Maldives to the Government and People of Sri Lanka, following the Easter Sunday terror attacks and expressed sympathies to the families of the bereaved.

Foreign Minister also exchanged views on countering terrorism in the region and reiterated the Government of Maldives’ strong commitment in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Additionally, Foreign Minister Shahid highlighted the newly introduced changes to the resident visa regime by the Sri Lankan Government, and underscored the need to resolve and ease visa procedures for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Shahid also met with Former Secretary to Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Chamal Rajapakse, Former Speaker.

Foreign Minister Shahid was accompanied by His Excellency Omar Abdul Razzak, Ambassador of Maldives in Sri Lanka.
