UNODC Regional Representative for South Asia presents Letter of Appointment to Minister of Foreign Affairs

The new United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative for South Asia Kristian Hӧlge presented his Letter of Appointment to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, today.  

During the meeting held following the presentation, Minister Dr Khaleel highlighted the close cooperation between the Maldives and UNODC, and thanked UNODC for their support. He further reflected on the role UNODC plays in the in combating transnational organised crime, countering terrorism and violent extremism in the Maldives. Minister Dr Khaleel reiterated the Government’s commitment to working closely with UNODC to advance preventive approaches, capacity building initiatives, and evidence-based policies that contribute to sustainable peace, security, and development in the country.

Regional Representative Hӧlge reaffirmed UNODC’s strong partnership with the Maldives and expressed readiness to further support national priorities. He highlighted UNODC’s ongoing and future programmes and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in tackling shared challenges across South Asia.
