A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Foreign Service Institute of the Maldives (FOSIM) and the UN University for Peace (UPEACE) was signed in a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, today.
The agreement focuses on enhancing the professional development of foreign service officers and government officials working in international relations by offering specialised training programmes and providing access to educational resources. By investing in capacity building opportunities, this agreement has the potential to enhance the overall efficiency and diplomatic cadre of the Ministry for the long term.
The UN University for Peace is an educational institution established under UN General Assembly Resolution 35/55 in 1980 and is dedicated to advancing global peace through education. Based in San José, Costa Rica, UPEACE offers a wide range of education, training and research programmes focusing on issues including conflict-prevention, human security, human rights and environmental security.
The MoU was signed by Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, on behalf of the Government of Maldives, and Ambassador and Permanent Observer for University for Peace, Geneva Mr. David Fernandez Puyana, on behalf of UPEACE.
