President appoints Fathimath Inaya as the new Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Inaya as the Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 12 December 2023. This is the first time a woman has been appointed as the Foreign Secretary in the Maldives. 

A career diplomat, Ms. Fathimath Inaya previously served in the Ministry from 1996 to 2018 and held various senior posts in the Ministry. She served as the Joint Secretary at the Ministry from 2012 to December 2013, as head of Bilateral Department coordinating policy on the Maldives bilateral engagements with other countries. As Deputy Additional Secretary of the Ministry from November 2009 to May 2012, she provided policy guidance and coordinated projects as Head of Europe and Americas Divisions. She also served as the Non - Resident High Commissioner of Maldives to Singapore from January 2015 to March 2017. 

Prior to her appointment as Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya was appointed as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 17 November 2023. She was appointed by Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer as Secretary at the Ministry on 26 November 2023, as per the recruitment policy of the Foreign Service. 

Fathimath Inaya holds a Master of International Studies from the University of Sydney, Australia and a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies and Asian Studies from Flinders University, Australia.
