Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed Presents Credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General

The Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General António Guterres today, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Ali Naseer conveyed greetings and warm regards from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Secretary-General and expressed the intention of the Government of Maldives to continue working closely with the United Nations. 

Ambassador Ali Naseer was appointed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as the new Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations on 7th May 2024. Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Ali Naseer has been serving as Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Ali Naseer headed the President-elect Muizzu’s Transition Committee on Foreign Relations until the President’s inauguration on 17 November 2023.

Ambassador Ali Naseer joined the Maldives Foreign Service in May 1985 and has served in various capacities in the service, both at the Headquarters and at Missions overseas. He held key positions including, Director-General for External Resources, Director-General for Political Affairs, Additional Secretary for Policy Planning, Foreign Secretary of the Maldives, Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador to Canada, Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2017-2019), and Secretary, Multilateral. 

Ambassador Ali Naseer holds a PhD in International Relations from the Australian National University, MA from Leicester University, United Kingdom, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Sydney, Australia.
