The newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Sweden, Aishath Shaan Shakir, presented her Letters of Credence to the King of Sweden, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf. The ceremony took place on 16 April 2026, at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
During the audience that followed, Ambassador Shaan conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from the President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu as well as from the Government and the people of the Maldives to His Majesty the King, the Government and the people of Sweden. Ambassador Shaan further reflected on the ties of friendship between the Maldives and Sweden, while expressing her keen interest to further enhance cooperation across different areas of mutual interest, during her tenure.
During her visit to Stockholm, Ambassador Shaan also met with senior officials of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. Discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and enhancing partnership in the multilateral fora.
Ambassador Shaan was accompanied by the Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Maldives in Berlin, Saifulla Waleed.
Ambassador Shaan also serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Finland.
