Non-Resident Ambassador of Maldives to Bhutan Presents Letters of Credential to the King of Bhutan

Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan, Her Excellency Shiuneen Rasheed, presented her Letters of Credential to His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck during a special ceremony held in Thimphu, the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan, on 13 February 2026.

Following the presentation of Credentials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck extended a warm reception to Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed and conveyed his congratulations on her assumption of duties as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed expressed her sincere gratitude for the gracious welcome accorded to her and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to His Majesty the King and the people of Bhutan. She also conveyed the Government of the Republic of Maldives’ appreciation for the longstanding friendship and goodwill shared between the two countries.

During the audience, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed reaffirmed the strong commitment of the Government to further deepen and strengthen bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Bhutan, and to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Following the presentation of Credentials, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed called on His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan, and His Excellency D.N. Dhungyel, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Kingdom of Bhutan. During the calls, discussions focused on further strengthening Maldives–Bhutan bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of shared priority. Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed will also call on His Excellency Namgyal Dorji, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Her Excellency Shiuneen Rasheed currently serves as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and will concurrently serve as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan, with residence in Dhaka. She was appointed as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on 26 February 2025 

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Maldives and the Kingdom of Bhutan were established on 13 July 1984. The two countries maintain constructive diplomatic relations and continue to engage through bilateral, regional, and multilateral platforms, reflecting shared commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development.
