The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid sent a message of felicitations to the Secretary of State of the United States of America Antony J. Blinken on the occasion of their Independence Day.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“On behalf of the Government, the people of the Republic of Maldives and on my own behalf, I would like to extend warm greetings and best wishes to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the United States, on the occasion of your Independence Day.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965, the partnership between the Maldives and the United States of America have flourished, based on our shared values and strong commitment to human rights, rule of law and democracy. The United States also remains one of the biggest development partners of the Maldives and our cooperation has expanded in the recent years, across multiple areas including security, defence, climate change, technology and trade and investment. The historic occasion of reopening of Embassy of Maldives in Washington, D.C. last month marks the beginning of a new chapter in the partnership between the Maldives and the United States.
I also remain assured that the opening of the first resident Embassy of United States in Malé in the coming months will further strengthen our efforts to advance the Maldives-US partnership.
Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your good health and well-being, and for further progress of the people of the United States of America and the assurances of my highest consideration.”
