The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Dr. Ian Borg, today.
During the meeting held at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta, the two Ministers acknowledged that, though separated by geographical distance, the Maldives and Malta share striking similarities and shared values.
Both ministers noted that this visit was a pivotal step towards building a reinvigorated Maldives-Malta bilateral relations. They emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties through expanded collaboration, exchange of expertise and working together on shared priorities.
As fellow small island nations, both ministers also reaffirmed a mutual dedication to environmental stewardship, notably in the transition into renewable energy. The Ministers agreed on working towards boosting new trade prospects and increasing foreign investment, reinforcing their commitment to cultivating a stronger and more inclusive economic relationship. In addition, both sides welcomed stronger people-to-people ties, particularly through increased collaboration in the areas of tourism, fisheries and higher education.
