The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel concluded his Official Visit to Sri Lanka today. The visit undertaken on the invitation of Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka aimed to enhance the longstanding bilateral, economic and cultural ties that exist between both countries.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel and Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Honourable Vijitha Herath held official talks and discussed enhancing collaboration in key sectors including trade, investment, environment and fisheries.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel also paid courtesy calls on President, Honourable Anura Kumara Disanayake, and Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Harini Amarasuriya where he congratulated the leadership on the successful presidential and parliamentary elections and the significant progress made in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
During the interactions with the business community and investors in Sri Lanka, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaeel shared information on opportunities and insights into investing in the Maldives.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Khaleel met with the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka and inquired about their well-being. In addition, Foreign Minister visited the High Commission of the Maldives and the Maldives Centre in Sri Lanka and met with the staff and emphasised the key role played by the mission in supporting the Maldivians residing and travelling to Sri Lanka.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel also met with non-resident Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to the Maldives based in Colombo and shared the priorities of the Government of Maldives in its quest to become a developed nation by 2040, and invited them to contribute to the journey.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya and Additional Secretary Aminath Abdulla Didi.
