The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Khaleel, has sent a message of condolence to the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, regarding the tragic midair collision that occurred on the evening of 29 January 2025, involving American Eagle Flight 5342 and an Army Blackhawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“Excellency,
I am profoundly saddened to learn of the devastating midair collision that occurred on Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of all passengers and crew onboard American Eagle Flight 5342 and the personnel aboard the Army Black Hawk helicopter.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the United States, particularly to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic event.
During this time of mourning, please know that the Maldives stands in solidarity with the United States, offering our support and compassion to those grieving this immense loss.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
