Ref: 2025/PR/111
The Maldives has been elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) for the term 2025 – 2028. The Maldives, along with Macao, China, India, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Türkiye were elected to the Governing Council.
The Maldives has worked in close partnership with UNESCAP to build national and regional resilience. As a member of APDIM’s Governing Council, the Maldives aims to promote disaster management across the region and contribute strongly to the work of the Centre through provision of capacity building to data-driven disaster risk reduction and supporting regional collaboration.
APDIM is a regional center of the ESCAP dedicated to enhancing disaster information management and resilience in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2015, APDIM was established through UNESCAP, to bring countries together to exchange information, enhance early warning systems, and make sure that appropriate information is available at the moment it is needed most. It plays a vital role in securing communities and making them resilient in a situation where there is a rise in climate and disaster risks.
APDIM is governed by a Governing Council consisting of 8 ESCAP member countries elected for a period of 3 years. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will represent the Maldives at the Governing Council at APDIM.
