The fourth Session of the Maldives Sri Lanka Joint Commission will be held in Colombo from 6 – 7 June 2023.
The Joint Commission will be co-chaired by His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives and His Excellency M.U.M. Ali Sabry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The Ministerial meeting will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting which will be held on 6 June 2023.
The Maldives – Sri Lanka Joint Commission was established in 1984 under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Co-operation between the two countries. The Joint Commission provides a platform for the two Governments to review, deliberate and establish cooperation frameworks on areas and issues of mutual importance in bilateral and multilateral spheres.
Topics on the agenda at the Senior Officials Meeting include trade and investment, tourism, culture, education, health, fisheries, defence, legal and law enforcement, youth and regional and international cooperation. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are scheduled to be signed between the two countries on the margins of the Joint Commission.
The Third Session of the Joint Commission was hosted by the Government of Maldives in Male’, in 2017.
