Governor of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Yubo calls on Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid

Governor of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Yubo paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Shahid welcomed Governor Yubo and the delegation to the Ministry and noted the long-‎lasting close bilateral ties between the Maldives and China. Minister Shahid highlighted that such visits provide an excellent opportunity to promote exchanges and increase cooperation between the Maldives and the Yunnan Province.

Governor Yubo noted the close relations between the two nations and assured his commitment to work closely with the Maldives in enhancing cooperation to promote economic growth and development.

Minister Shahid and Governor Yubo exchanged views on a wide array of areas and discussed ways of strengthening substantive cooperation in the fields of agriculture, education, sports, tourism, and trade between Maldives and the Yunnan Province.

Minister Shahid also reiterated that the Government of Maldives remains steadfast in its firm commitment to the One China Principle, as articulated innumerable times, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China.

The Minister was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Latheef, Secretary, Bilateral, Her Excellency Dr. Hala Hameed, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Amin Javed Faizal and Senior Undersecretary, Ms. Fathimath Naeema.

Governor Yubo is on an Official Visit to the Maldives from 20-22 May 2023, on the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid.
