Four Exchange of Notes signed between Maldives and Japan

The Government of the Republic of Maldives and Government of Japan today signed four bilateral agreements, marking a significant step in strengthening existing ties between the two countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Moosa Zameer and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency Takeuchi Midori signed the four Exchange of Notes at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The four Exchange of Notes are as follows:

1) Exchange of Notes Provision of Customs Patrol Craft based on Economic Cooperation Grant Act of Japan.

2) Exchange of Notes for the grant of 260 Million Japanese Yen for implementation of the Project for the Enhancement of AbilIty in Maritime Safety and Security.

3) Exchange of Notes for the grant of 600 Million Japanese Yen for the Provision of Equipment towards Strengthening Maldives' National Response Capacity to High Frequent Natural Hazards through Community Empowerment to the National Disaster Management Authority, under the Economic and Social Development Programme

4) Exchange of Notes for the Grant of 56 Million Japanese Yen for the Provision of Equipment to support operations of patrol vessels to the Maldives Customs Service, under the Economic and Social Development Programme.

Minister Zameer conveyed his appreciation for Japan's ongoing support and underscored the significance of this collaboration in advancing the socio-economic development of the Maldives. He also highlighted the important role played by Japan as one of the key development partners, and reiterated Maldives’ commitment to further build upon the excellent diplomatic relations between Maldives and Japan.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Maldives Customs Service, National Disaster Management Authority, and the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives.
