7th June 2012, Male'; The President Dr Mohamed Waheed has yesterday met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka. Both presidents engaged in a cordial and productive exchange on a range of issues of mutual interest.

6th June 2012, London, UK; President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today joined Her Majesty The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, and other Commonwealth Heads of Government for a luncheon hosted by Commonwealth Secretary-General HE Kamalesh Sharma in honour of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee. The luncheon took place at the Commonwealth's headquarters, Marlborough House, and representatives from all 54 Commonwealth countries were in attendance.

5 June 2012, London;President Dr Mohamed Waheed arrived in London last night, to begin a five day visit that will see him attend official engagements held in honour of The Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth. First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain is accompanying the President during this visit.

04th June 2012, Male'; The government of Maldives has accepted former President Mohamed Nasheed's nominee Mr. Ahmed Saeed for the Commission on National Inquiry (CoNI). The Government has communicated this decision to Sir Don McKinnon, Special Envoy of the Commonwealth Secretary General. In addition to Mr Saeed, the Government has also decided to appoint a judge from Singapore as the Co-Chair of the Commission.

04th June 2012, UAE;The Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Rasheed, has presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the United Arab Emrates, High Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a ceremony held at the Al-Shiyafa Palace in United Arab Emirates today.

4th June 2012, Male'; The Foreign Ministry has warmly welcomed today's finalisation of the new composition of the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) following tripartite agreement between the Government, former President Nasheed and the Commonwealth. This, together with changes to its mandate, marks the completion of a process to strengthen the independence, impartiality and credibility of the Commission in-line with calls by the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG). Speaking after the announcement, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, said that the agreement is an important moment both for the national truth and reconciliation process and for the Maldives' relationship with the Commonwealth.

01st June 2012, Male'; The Delegates at the 65th session of the World Health Assembly, currently taking place in Geneva, have appointed the Maldives to the World Health Organisation's Executive Board for a 3-year term. The Executive Board is the WHO's main body mandated to give effect to the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, to advise it and generally to facilitate its work. The Maldives was also appointed as Vice-President of the 131st (current) session of the Executive Board.

31st May 2012, Male'; The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms.Dunya Maumoon, today underlined the importance of the strengthened Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) restarting and completing its work. She was speaking as the deadline approached for a nominee of former President Nasheed to fill the last spot on the Commission. "The Government has always emphasised the importance of the Commission as the main national mechanism to establish truth, accountability and reconciliation for the events of January and early February this year. We are therefore pleased that through discussions with the Commonwealth, we have been able to strengthen its mandate and composition. We now look forward to all its members, including the new co-chair and Mr. Nasheed's nominee, resuming the Commission's work and presenting their findings and recommendations as soon as possible".

30thMay 2012, Geneva; The Maldives today joined a request by twenty-one member States of the UN Human Rights Council for the body to convene an emergency debate on the deteriorating human rights situation in Syria and the recent massacre in the El-Houleh area of Homs.

28 May 2012, Male';New High Commissioner of Malaysia accredited to the Maldives, Azmi Zainuddin has presented his letter of credence to President Dr Mohamed Waheed, at a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning.

27 May 2012, Male';The Government of Maldives condemns in the strongest terms last week's massacre in the Syrian town of Houla.

22nd May 2012, Male'; The Participants in the All-Party Talks reconvened yesterday and, according to the Convener, Mr. Ahmed Mujuthaba, were able to make important progress. The Talks were established in the immediate aftermath of the 7th February transfer of power, as part of a process to resolve political tensions through dialogue.

4 May 2012, Male'; The Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Moldova have formally established diplomatic relations today. The Joint Communiqué formalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives, by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Chargé d'affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations and by H.E. Mr. Vladimir Lupan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, on behalf of the Government of Moldova. The ceremony was held at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations.

The President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Waheed, is on an official visit to India from 11 to 15 May 2012 at the invitation of the Prime Minister. He is accompanied by Mrs. Ilham Hussain and a high level delegation.

12th May 2012, Male'; The President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh of India.

At the meeting the President said that India and the Maldives had very close bilateral relations, and noted the importance given by the Prime Minister in strengthening the relations. The President also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the invitation to make the visit to India.
