Government accepts Nasheed's nominee to CoNI

04th June 2012, Male'; The government of Maldives has accepted former President Mohamed Nasheed's nominee Mr. Ahmed Saeed for the Commission on National Inquiry (CoNI). The Government has communicated this decision to Sir Don McKinnon, Special Envoy of the Commonwealth Secretary General. In addition to Mr Saeed, the Government has also decided to appoint a judge from Singapore as the Co-Chair of the Commission.



The Government made the decision to accept Mr Saeed's nameto demonstrate its seriousness in allowing the CoNI to continue with the inquiry in a genuinely independent and impartial fashion, and to complete the inquiry in a timely manner, as stipulated in the commitment signed with Sir Donald on 15 May.
