The Issue of Palestine
The Maldives strongly condemns illegal acts of Israel in the Occupied territories, that hinders efforts towards a lasting solution to the conflict, as well as peace and stability in the region.
The Maldives reaffirms the commitment and unconditional support to the Palestinian people in their pursuit to attain their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination.
The Maldives believes that a lasting and sustainable solution to the conflict, can only be possible through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Maldives continues to deliver statements at the United Nations, including the United Nations Security Council Open Debates, on the establishment of a Palestinian State and the importance of international law – including respect for territorial integrity, human rights, and the right to self-determination.
The Maldives has contributed to efforts to uphold international law through the submission of a written statement to the ICJ with regard to the request for an Advisory Opinion on the legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and filing a declaration of intervention in the ICJ Case filed by South Africa against Israel on the Genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The Maldives also continues to call for full membership of Palestine at the United Nations. The Maldives has in the past supported Palestine’s efforts to secure membership of various international organisations.
