Gender equality

As a member of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2023-2025, one of the priorities of the Maldives at HRC is to ensure gender equality and elimination of violence against women and girls. The Maldives believed that women’s empowerment and gender equality are essential to global progress and to achieve a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.

The Maldives has co-sponsored several joint statements and resolutions on violence against women and girls and discrimination against women and girls at the Human Rights Council and at General Assembly.
