G77 and China
The Group of 77 plus China, established in 1964, consists of 134 Member States that are developing countries, to promote collective economic and developmental interests through joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations and other platforms.
Since becoming a member in 1976, the Maldives has been an active participant in meetings of G77 and China and calls for solidarity and unity in addressing issues of mutual interest including the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, debt distress, reducing inequalities and other developmental issues. The Maldives also participates in negotiations on economic and financial matters including discussions on the budget in the United Nations and in international climate change negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
