Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid discussed the Maldives' decision to intervene in The Gambia’s case against Myanmar, with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of The Gambia H.E. Mr. Mamadou Tangara.

During the discussion held over the phone, Minister Shahid assured that all work carried out on behalf of the Maldives with regard to the intervention will be preceded by mutual consultations and coordination with The Gambia. Minister Shahid commended the government of The Republic of Gambia and the OIC on their continuous efforts in safeguarding the rights of the Rohingya people to ensure their safe return home.

Minister further reiterated that the Maldives has always been a strong advocate for the rights of Rohingya people and its decision to intervene has been made with the intention to further extend this support.

Both ministers were confident of future close collaboration between the two countries, with the common objective being obtaining justice for the Rohingya people at an international platform.
