Statement by the Government of Maldives on Israel's recent decision to seize land in the Jordan Valley, Occupied Palestine

Ref: 2024/Statement/13

The Government of Maldives strongly condemns Israel’s recent decision to confiscate 8,000 dunams (1,977 acres) of land in the Jordan Valley of the Occupied Palestine. This is a flagrant violation of international law and the rights of the Palestinian people and poses the risk of further escalation and instability in the Middle East region.

The Government of Maldives calls on the international community to take decisive action to stop Israel’s continuous violations of international law and to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Government and the people of the Maldives stand in firm solidarity with the people of Palestine and believe that lasting peace can only be achieved by establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
