The Government of the Republic of Maldives strongly condemns Israel’s unlawful interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters. The flotilla, a humanitarian convoy carrying unarmed civilians and life-saving assistance for a population under constant siege was attacked in blatant violation of international law, the principles of humanity and the protection of humanitarian missions.
Targeting civilian vessels delivering aid to a population already deprived of freedom, dignity, and basic necessities is indefensible. Such actions constitute not only a grave breach of international humanitarian and maritime law, but also a moral failure that undermines the shared values of humanity and compassion.
By repeatedly disregarding human dignity and international obligations, Israel has further isolated itself from the rest of the world. The Maldives calls for urgent and decisive measures by the international community to hold Israel accountable for its gross and repeated violations of international law, and to ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers.
The Maldives stands in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just and legitimate struggle for peace, security, dignity, and basic human rights. We stand united with all those calling for an end to the ongoing aggression and for the urgent delivery of unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.
