08 June 2014; During his official visit to China, H.E. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Vice President of the Republic of Maldives had a very successful meeting with H.E. Mr. Li Jiheng, Governor of Yunnan Province this evening.
Vice President H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed noted the long-lasting close bilateral ties between the Maldives and China. The Vice President further congratulated the Yunnan Governor on the development of Kunming, specially emphasizing on the usage of renewable energy in the city. Discussions were held on a wide array of areas where the two countries could strengthen cooperation. H.E. Mr. Li Jiheng assured that the People's Government of Yunnan Province will work with the Maldives in strengthening areas of cooperation such as renewable energy, science and technology, tourism, connectivity, economy and trade.
The meeting was attended by Hon. Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development and Hon. Mr. Abdulla Ameen, Minister at the President's Office. Mr. Liu Ping, Senior Advisor of the People's Government of Yunnan Province and other high level officials of the Government of Yunnan Province also attend the meeting.
During the visit, the Vice President also met with H.E. Wang Yang, Vice Premier of China. Discussions at the meeting were focused on ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, in areas such as trade and investment.
