09th September 2012, Male', The Ambassador of the United States of America accredited to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Ms. Michele J. Sison paid courtesy call on Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. State Minister Dunya thanked the New Ambassador Ms. Michele J. Sisonfor the invaluable assistance provided in strengthening democracy in the Maldives and in her remarks, Ms. Michele J. Sison praised the Government and people of Maldives for their efforts in bringing peace and prosperity to the country.
Enlighten the bilateral development of both countries, State Minister and Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen the close existing relations between the two countries. State Minister also expressed confidence that the US government would continue to extend assistance towards sustaining the development of the Maldives, as well as consolidating the Maldives' democracy and enhancing the social, economic and political dimensions of governance in the country.
The State Minister also shared with the Ambassador, the current political situation and challenges being faced in the country.
