31 January 2013, Male': The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Mr James Moore and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Ms Jane Zimmerman undertook an official visit to the Maldives on 31 January 2013. The delegation was also accompanied by H.E. Ms Michele J. Sison, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives.
During the one day visit, the delegation called on H.E. President Mohamed Waheed, H.E. Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen, H.E. Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Samad Abdullah, and also met with independent institutions and civil society.
At the meeting, President Waheed briefed the delegation on the efforts being undertaken to uphold rule of law and maintain peace and stability in the country and also expressed gratitude to the US government for their continued engagement and assistance to the Maldives. The delegation reassured the support of the US Government towards the socio-economic and political development of the country, and consolidating the existing close relations between the two countries.
