12th September 2012, Male'; During a call on His Excellency Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs by His Excellency Mr. Robert O. Blake, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs of the United States of America, His Excellency Blake urged all parties to work together to resolve issues through dialogue. He stated that the Maldives has political leaders who are capable and committed to moving forward with the democratic process and they need to build on the progress achieved. Mr Robert Blake also noted the Government's support and cooperation to the Commission of National Inquiry and stressed the importance of moving forward and implementing the findings of CoNI. His Excellency Mr. Blake assured that the United States Government will work with the Maldives to strengthen democracy.
Minister Samad highlighted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and the US, and expressed his gratitude to the US government for standing by the Maldives through this difficult times. He also thanked the US for the continued support and assistance to the Maldives and assured that the Maldives will keep working with the US.
The call was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Hassan Saeed, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, Ambassador-at-Large, Mr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Additional Secretary and Ms. Fathimath Inaya, Joint Secretary also participated in the call.
